We’re back!!!
After a well-deserved break in August, we’re excited to get back to work.
Yesterday evening, I was already getting back into the swing of things. I knew that before going to bed, I’d need to set my alarm for the usual time if I wanted to make it to work on time. So that’s exactly what I did—laid out my clothes and set the alarm clock.
This morning, like clockwork, the routine kicked in. The alarm went off—machines never fail, they just do what we tell them. I woke up, went through my usual morning ritual (shower, getting dressed, and taking my dog Berto out), but I skipped breakfast because today felt special.
I have a few habits and rituals that I’ve picked up over the years. One of them is that on my first day back at work, I like to have breakfast out—pick a random café and watch the city wake up around me.
There’s something about that first-back-to-work coffee—it just tastes different from the ones you have on holiday. In fact, it’s not just the coffee; even the sound of the spoon stirring it is different.
This morning, I walked into a neighborhood bar—steel-legged tables with old marble tops, a counter straight out of a retro TV show, orange and brown striped tiles, and a bar half-covered in faux leather.
A real treat for the senses.
While admiring the display of croquettes and meatballs at the counter, I ordered a fuet sandwich and a good café con leche. To my right, the newspapers for customers reminded me that no matter how long you’re away on holiday, the headlines barely change. Sometimes it feels like the writers are just juggling the same words to give them a slightly different spin—a sign of true creative talent.
Afterwards, I got in the car, put on some good music to get motivated, and drove through the streets from home to the studio.
The sound of the shutter going up instantly brought me back to the buzz of the studio. Soon after, the rest of the team arrived, all smiles, and we took the chance to have a quick catch-up and kick-off meeting.
