A few years ago, as many of you will remember, the standard practice when designing a website was to stick to system fonts, since most browsers didn’t support external typefaces.
Today, with modern browsers, we have access to hundreds of fonts, and with the arrival of Google Fonts, the process has become even simpler.

Designed by Christian Robertson, Roboto is a mechanical, geometric typeface. It’s used on an impressive 32.6 billion websites.

Next up is Open Sans, designed by Steve Matteson. This typeface is optimized for excellent readability both on screen and in print. Open Sans has been used in the design of 28 billion web pages. We’ve used it in several projects ourselves, and it’s honestly one of our favorites.

I have a special fondness for this font—if I remember correctly, it was one of the first I used with Google Fonts, finally breaking free from the “grip” of classic Arial.

Designed by John Hudson, Slabo 27px is a rather unique typeface. It’s specifically designed to be used at its exact size—27px. It’s intended for digital media, such as web design and all kinds of online marketing. There’s also a Slabo 13px version. Because it’s tailored for a specific size, it delivers a perfect visual result.
