If you’re planning a trip to the capital, don’t miss this outstanding exhibition showcasing the best typographic designs of 2015, featuring both applied typography and typeface design.
You can visit as part of Typomad 2015, held at the Central de Diseño at Matadero Madrid, where you’ll find a curated selection of internationally awarded typographic projects.
The Central de Diseño at Matadero Madrid is a Contemporary Creation Center located at Plaza de Legazpi 9, in the heart of Madrid.
This space is dedicated exclusively to design in all its forms, hosting a wide variety of projects related to graphic design, interior design, and industrial design.
Matadero offers a large cultural venue for promoting design and sharing a diverse range of creative proposals and projects.
Here, the relationship between culture and economy is explored in depth, with graphic design, product design, and spatial design approached from a cross-disciplinary perspective, always seeking to infuse creative value into economic activity.
The center is managed by Fundación Diseño Madrid and promoted by the Madrid Designers Association (DIMAD), steadily gaining recognition both nationally and internationally.
The TDC Awards are presented by the international Type Directors Club of New York, founded in 1946. Its main mission is to promote and protect the written word as expressed through typography, whether on screen or in print.
Among the organization’s many activities—courses, workshops, and more—a selection of the most outstanding typographic works is showcased, all recognized and awarded by an international jury for excellence in applied typography and typeface design.
At this exhibition, you’ll discover some of the winning and acclaimed works in the following categories:
1 – Typefaces for application and communication
2 – Newly designed typefaces
In addition to the exhibition, you can also attend a series of talks.
These talks—Testimonios—are a highlight of the festival, where leading national and international figures discuss type design and its application across different design sectors, offering fresh, innovative, and engaging perspectives.

Everyone knows how crucial it is to choose the right typeface for a project. Typography not only carries its own intrinsic meaning, but also communicates externally—its form, weight, and size speak to the viewer regardless of the literal message.
Selecting the right typeface can be the difference between a project’s success, failure, or mediocrity.
It’s essential to understand the project’s language, expectations, target audience, and market, and to combine this insight with the graphic design elements you’ll use to achieve your goals—how you use them, how you combine them, and the unique language they create.
With a full understanding of all these elements, you can reach your desired outcome.
