You can’t imagine how excited I was the other day when I opened up the web design studio computer and, as usual before starting work, dove into the latest graphic design and web design magazines I regularly browse to keep up with the industry.
So you can imagine my surprise when I came across an article in Neo2 magazine about a brand new product on the market—a universal real-time translator.
Amazing! Yes, you read that right: for just 300 euros, you can have a translator right in your ear. When you think about it, that’s not a bad price for a universal translator. After all, there isn’t enough money in the world to pay for all the classes needed to learn Spanish, German, French, Italian, and English—and that’s just thinking about the cost. Realistically, I know I don’t have the brainpower to store that much language knowledge.
It’s true—those of us who have invested a ton of time, money, patience, and, at first, a whole lot of embarrassment, might just be the last people around here who’ve had to work so hard just to master a single language!
The company bringing this product to market is Waverly Labs, and their technological marvel is called Pilot.
Pilot is a system made up of two earpieces—one for me, one for you! Both are managed by an app with the translation technology needed for us to understand each other, even if we speak different languages.
According to its creators, the app doesn’t require an internet connection, since everything needed for translation is already on your smartphone.
Bless these smartphones—the smarter they get, the less we seem to use our own brains, or so I fear.
But let’s be honest: machines are here to make our lives easier, so we can spend more time on the things that really matter.
This gadget is set to hit the market in September 2016. We’ll have to wait and see what users—the real product testers—have to say about it.
Personally, I love the idea of not having to worry about communication barriers when I want to share an idea born in the web design studio. It’s true that more and more clients from other countries are choosing the talent of Barcelona’s web design studios and the human touch we bring to every project.
Here’s the promotional link from the folks at Waverly Labs, in case you’re one of those people who struggles with languages and want to check it out.
What do you think? Pretty cool, right?
Honestly, this is one of those ideas that was long overdue for the market.
Who knows—maybe next time I meet with a client from another country, I’ll have a Pilot in my pocket. Maybe it’ll be you, looking for a great web developer, a team of web developers to create a modern website that fits the times, with web design that truly captures your vision. You never know.
