To start, we’re focusing on a… corporate identity review—exactly what it sounds like. We pick a corporate identity that’s caught our attention and give it our full focus.

In this series, we’re moving away from our usual format of reviewing three or five projects at a time, and instead, we’re dedicating each article to just one.

Corporate identity design by the graphic design and communications studio Socrates

The Project

Cargo is an office building located at the heart of London’s Canary Wharf docklands.

After several years, it was time for Cargo to update its corporate identity to better reflect its current position.

To achieve this, they commissioned the design and communications agency Socrates, confident that this creative team would deliver outstanding results.

Socrates developed a fresh brand identity, drawing inspiration from the area’s rich history of trade and transport. Their proposal centers on a vibrant, colorful palette.

The new branding features a mix of iconography, photography, and collage.

The typography is bold, large, and condensed—traditionally associated with packaging and transport.

Socrates delivered a comprehensive solution, handling every aspect:

Offline corporate materials: flyers, business cards, logo, brand identity—everything, down to the last detail

In my view, this is one of the best comprehensive corporate identity projects I’ve seen in a long time.

The way they’ve managed to connect the area’s history and activity with a contemporary vision is truly remarkable.

They’ve succeeded in creating a modern image that remains deeply respectful of Cargo’s heritage and traditions.

I also want to highlight the positive impact this has had on such a geographically and culturally significant area.

The way the logo is integrated into such a bold color palette, and the overall conceptualization, is the result of careful, in-depth work long before the final presentation.

The interplay between the branding elements is outstanding, coming together as a truly unique whole.
