In this post, we’re taking a look at the best web designs of 2017 so far. Our selection is based on Awwwards, the go-to site for showcasing the most outstanding web creations from around the globe.
Last December, we wrapped up the year with a post highlighting the top web designs of 2016–2017, curated from the renowned Awwwards website and our own web inspiration gallery “8”. That list featured the best web designs created over the previous year. Each month, we selected the top websites—those awarded Awwwards’ Site of the Day. From these, twelve monthly winners were chosen, each earning the coveted Site of the Month distinction.
But first, what exactly is Awwwards?
For those unfamiliar, Awwwards is a gallery where designers showcase their web designs. It’s one of the leading sources for web inspiration, featuring the best web designs from all over the world. Earning even an “Honorable Mention” for a web development and design project is something to be proud of. And if you win a Site of the Day, that’s a real achievement—not only do you receive a certificate of recognition and have your web design featured on Awwwards, but Site of the Day winners are also included in the annual book highlighting the world’s best web design projects.
We also encourage you to check out our gallery 8, where we collect all our issues in one place, quarter by quarter.
With that, let’s dive into our selection of the best web designs of 2017 from the first quarter.
A beautiful web design for a German restaurant chain. The site is vibrant and colorful, with carefully crafted photography. The layout is excellent and the typography is spot on. All these elements come together to create a site that’s both visually appealing and highly functional.
Shift Capital specializes in real estate consulting and investment. The standout features here are the impressive navigation menu and the seamless transitions between sections. This site proves that even with a “boring” product—like web design for a consulting and investment firm—you can create something that grabs your audience’s attention.
For Honor offers an interactive experience, immersing you in a 3D adventure right in your browser, built using canvas. You choose your hero and watch the battle unfold as you scroll down the page.
Wokine is a digital agency based in France. We love the overall web design—every transition between sections is perfectly in sync with the site’s visual style.
An impressive intro animation, again built with canvas, just like the previous examples. It responds to your mouse movements, creating a striking effect. The rest of the web design is visually stunning and lives up to the high expectations set by such a polished homepage.
As we can see, canvas elements are everywhere—most Site of the Day winners incorporate them in some way. Canvas is trending, not just for its visual appeal but also for its functionality. Our advice? If you want to win a Site of the Day, use canvas elements and, of course, create a visually striking and innovative design.
