New iPhone 7

I was browsing the web when I stumbled upon the news: tech giant Apple has officially announced its next highly anticipated release. Okay… I’ll admit it, it wasn’t exactly by chance—I’ve been on the lookout, waiting for this announcement. The new launch is none other than the iPhone 7, which, as expected, will also come in a Plus version with a larger screen, just like its predecessor, the iPhone 6. But this time, Apple has added a second camera to introduce the new multishot zoom feature, which we’ll dive into shortly.

Alongside the new camera—capable of processing over a billion operations in just 25 milliseconds—the iPhone 7 is now water-resistant, features dual stereo speakers, and brings display improvements with richer color reproduction.

A new camera system

The iPhone 7 comes equipped with a new 12MP camera, capable of performing a billion operations in just 25 milliseconds. It also features an upgraded flash with four LEDs for significantly improved image capture.

Every photo taken with the new camera goes through a series of processes before you see the final image:

  • Subject detection—whether it’s people, objects, or scenes
  • Automatic exposure
  • Focus adjustment
  • White balance
  • Wide color capture
  • Tone mapping
  • Noise reduction
  • Final image output

In addition to image stabilization and in-system photo editing, one of the standout upgrades in this version is the ability to export RAW images in DNG format.

The front-facing camera has also been upgraded to 7MP, now supporting wide color technology and image stabilization.

Video recording remains at 4K, as with the previous iPhone 6, and now includes a slow-motion mode capable of capturing 120 fps at 1080p.

New shooting mode: Portrait

Beyond panorama and 1:1 modes, the iPhone 7 introduces a new Portrait mode. This mode scans the scene for the subject and blurs the background in real time—right on your screen—without needing to take the shot first, simulating the depth-of-field effect typically reserved for high-end cameras.

iPhone 7 Plus: Dual cameras

Yes, you read that right—dual cameras. The Plus version of Apple’s latest phone features two 12MP cameras. This enables the new “multi zoom” feature, allowing you to take two photos with a single shot: one with up to 10x zoom and another without zoom.

Dual speakers, farewell to the headphone jack, and wireless earpods

Stereo speakers deliver higher sound quality, and while it may not be a massive leap, it’s a welcome improvement. One of the most talked-about changes online is the removal of the familiar headphone jack. Now, headphones connect via the same port used for charging. However, Apple includes an adapter in the iPhone 7 box for those who still want to use their old headphones.

The new Apple earpods are now wireless, meaning we can finally say goodbye to tangled cables. These new earpods offer features like track navigation and volume control, and can be synced with all your Apple devices: Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, and more.

Water resistance and an improved Home button

You can finally take your iPhone into the bath without worry. To better protect our beloved devices, the new iPhone is now fully water and dust resistant—a long-awaited feature already present in many other smartphones.

The Home button has also been improved, now offering customizable shortcuts so users can personalize their experience.

Pricing and availability

As with previous models like the iPhone 6s, prices start at €769 for the 32GB version (the 16GB model is discontinued), €879 for 128GB, and €989 for 256GB.

The new iPhone is set to hit stores on September 16 in most countries worldwide, including Spain.

As tradition goes, September kicks off with new Apple launches, and soon we’ll see lines forming at Apple Stores around the globe for what’s sure to become the next must-have device.

It didn’t take long for the writers at elmundotoday to publish their satirical take on the iPhone 7—definitely worth a laugh!
