New York Women’s Surf Film Festival branding

Project background
For the annual New York Women’s Surf Film Festival organized by Lava Girl Surf, there was a need to develop a complete branding identity to support this event celebrating women directors and surfers who live to ride waves and share their adventures on film.
The core concept behind this graphic design and branding project centers on the silhouettes of surfers set against an abstract background, painted in vibrant, contemporary colors that contrast with the distinctly retro design.
The abstract backdrop creates a timeless feel—you can’t quite tell if it’s sunrise or sunset, but for surfers, both are equally magical.
The design project
The branding was inspired by the iconic poster for the cult surf film Endless Summer.

Every element was designed to fit within a unified concept and visual identity, ensuring consistency throughout the project and achieving a cohesive brand in every aspect.
Who’s behind the project?
The project was created by Shanti Sparrow, creative director of her namesake agency, which specializes in graphic design and illustration.
She’s been recognized by Canva as one of the “33 women doing amazing things in graphic design.”
Award highlights
This outstanding project recently won Gold in Branding 2019 at the prestigious Indigo Awards, a prize reserved for graphic designers who want to share their passion for the extraordinary with the world.
