{"id":29105,"date":"2016-06-10T16:06:12","date_gmt":"2016-06-10T16:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/codewebbarcelona.com\/tactography-vs-typography\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T01:02:26","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T01:02:26","slug":"tactography-vs-typography","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/codewebbarcelona.com\/en\/tactography-vs-typography\/","title":{"rendered":"Tactography vs Typography"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Among the final degree projects at ESNE (University School of Design, Innovation and Technology), we discovered this gem of creativity.<\/p>\n<p>Tactography, a walk on the blind side by Jacobo Olmedo Iglesias.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/codewebbarcelona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/esne-proyectos-fin-grado-2-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-322\" src=\"https:\/\/codewebbarcelona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/esne-proyectos-fin-grado-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"dise\u00f1o tipografia barcelona\" width=\"1000\" height=\"662\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A typographic exercise of exceptional brilliance and originality, Jacobo Olmedo has managed to create an entirely new series of typefaces focused on Braille.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing inspiration from iconic typefaces of the 19th and 20th centuries\u2014design milestones that have shaped the field to this day\u2014he has developed a complete range of Braille fonts.<\/p>\n<p>Jacobo began his research with Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the architect and graphic designer associated with Art Deco, Cubism, and Futurism.<\/p>\n<p>He also looked to Peter Behrens, architect, designer, multidisciplinary creative, member of the Deutscher Werkbund (now Bauhaus), and abstract painter.<\/p>\n<p>Josef Albers, too\u2014designer, poet, typographer, Bauhaus member, and abstract painter\u2014served as inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, Max Miedinger, the Swiss typographer forever remembered for creating Helvetica in 1957.<\/p>\n<p>With all the passion you\u2019d expect, Jacobo\u2019s in-depth study of these typographic masters led him to create a new series of typefaces for the visually impaired.<\/p>\n<p>His main goal: to enhance the language of the blind, optimize characters, and promote greater social inclusion through accessible design.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/codewebbarcelona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/esne-proyectos-fin-grado-3-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-323\" src=\"https:\/\/codewebbarcelona.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/esne-proyectos-fin-grado-3-1.jpg\" alt=\"esne-proyectos-fin-grado-3\" width=\"1075\" height=\"780\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The result is a bridge between the world of reading\u2014originally a purely visual experience\u2014and the tactile realm. Sight and touch merge to create a new, as-yet-unnamed sense.<\/p>\n<p>This project breaks down the entrenched barriers between senses that are so deeply rooted in our society.
