When it comes to making rankings, everyone\u2019s ready to weigh in on what\u2019s best and what\u2019s worst. In this series of posts, I\u2019ll be showcasing the world\u2019s best logos. Today, it\u2019s Apple\u2019s turn.<\/p>\n

Of course, any ranking starts from a completely subjective point of view\u2014so this list of the world\u2019s best logos is entirely subjective as well.<\/p>\n

About this section<\/h3>\n

To decide whether a logo deserves a spot among the world\u2019s best, I\u2019ve considered the following factors:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. It\u2019s visually appealing<\/li>\n
  2. It reflects the product or service it represents<\/li>\n
  3. It\u2019s widely recognized<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Here\u2019s why these matter:<\/p>\n

    When it comes to logos and design, visual appeal is absolutely essential.<\/p>\n

    A good logo should also reflect the product or service behind it\u2014this is fundamental.<\/p>\n

    Recognition shouldn\u2019t necessarily be a deciding factor in what makes a logo one of the world\u2019s best, but I\u2019ve included it because I want to highlight logos that are known around the globe.<\/p>\n

    What I haven\u2019t considered is brand reputation. This isn\u2019t a ranking of brand prestige, even though it features some of the world\u2019s most famous brands.<\/p>\n

    All clear? Let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n

    The world\u2019s best logos: Apple<\/h2>\n

    Apple. Predictable, right? I put it first to appease the Apple fanboys\u2014there would be an uproar if it didn\u2019t make the list. Now you can relax and enjoy the post without any anxiety.<\/p>\n

    Now that we\u2019ve got that out of the way, let\u2019s talk about the logo:<\/p>\n

    Designed by…<\/h4>\n

    The original logo was designed by Rob Janoff in 1977. The image above shows the current version, which is a redesign of the original, though it remains almost identical.<\/p>\n

    Logo meaning<\/h4>\n

    The meaning behind the logo is tied to knowledge, referencing the apple of knowledge bitten by Eve\u2014knowledge through computers.<\/p>\n

    According to the designer, the logo wasn\u2019t explicitly intended as a biblical reference. The bite was simply a way to make sure it was recognized as an apple, not a cherry.<\/p>\n

    Logo evolution<\/h4>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    The first version of the Apple logo, with its rainbow-colored apple, is rumored to nod to the hippie culture of the 1970s. However, Janoff has said the real reason for the colorful design was to highlight that the Apple II was the first PC with a color display.<\/p>\n

    Over the years, the logo has changed very little. The concept and shape have always stayed the same, aside from the very first iteration.<\/p>\n

    You can see how the logo has adapted to the times. In the 2000s, it embraced gradients, glows, and chrome effects\u2014the kind that filled our screens everywhere.<\/p>\n

    Today, in the era of flat design, the Apple logo still retains its original 1977 form, but now it\u2019s completely flat\u2014no bevels, no chrome, no gradients.<\/p>\n

    Visual aspects of the logo<\/h4>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    Visually, it\u2019s a balanced logo, with geometry that\u2019s pleasing to the eye. Its minimalism makes it timeless and easy to adapt to new graphic trends.<\/p>\n

    Even though it isn\u2019t technically symmetrical, it looks symmetrical at first glance. The shapes are fairly predictable\u2014in a good way.<\/p>\n

    As for whether the golden ratio was actually used in the grid, I\u2019m not sure if that\u2019s fact or just a myth. It\u2019s a topic worth exploring, and I plan to dedicate a future post to investigating it.<\/p>\n

    To wrap up<\/h2>\n
